Travel Photo Roulette Round 42: The Winner!

We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting Round 42 of Travel Photo Roulette. Firstly, we want to say thank you to everyone that entered this round, it was great to see all the photos and get to know some new blogs. Plus, there were a few people who were entering for the first time which is good to see. There were some outstanding photos submitted for our chosen theme; Evening, and we had a very hard time choosing a winner! But we finally finally managed to narrow it [...]

Photo Essay: Goreme, Cappadocia, Turkey

We spent a month travelling through Turkey last summer and our week spent in Cappadocia still tops the list. Cappadocia is located in the Central Anatolia region and is famous for its unique landscape of caves and rock formations, called fairy chimneys. The landscape of the Cappadocia plateau has been sculpted naturally by erosion. The ancient volcanoes of Mount Erciyes, Mount Hasan and Mount Melendiz expelled many layers of thick volcanic tuff over the area thousands of years ago. Over time this volcanic tuff [...]

Mermaids of Jeju – Korean female divers, Jeju Island

Don’t let their appearances fool you. While they might be over 70, look old and wrinkly and tell you all about their five grandchildren, they are as fit as ever. Jeju Island, in South Korea, is famous for it’s female divers. Known as the mermaids of Jeju or ‘haenyo’ around the island, these women dive in the ocean to gather clams, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, abalone, or seaweed, selling their catch at local markets and restaurants. The incredible thing is, they [...]

Photo Roulette Round 42: Evening

Welcome to Round 42 of Travel Photo Roulette. Travel Photo Roulette started  in November 2010 as a way for travel bloggers to showcase their best photography. For each round a new theme is chosen, and independent travel bloggers are asked to submit their photos. Then a winner is chosen to host (and judge!) the following round.  Round 41 was hosted by Adventure Crow with ‘Spirit of the Country’ as the theme. After seeing some of the great entries (check them all out here), [...]

Keukenhof: Because flower gardens are not just for old ladies!

Keukenhof had just opened when we arrived in Holland last week and given that Holland is the place to see tulips, we went to check it out, and I have got to say it was pretty damn awesome. These world famous gardens are near the town of Lisse, south west of Amsterdam. They were started in 1949 by the Mayor of the town to showcase and exhibit new and existing flowers, in an effort to help the Dutch export industry. [...]

Favourite Snap: Ang Thong National Marine Park, Thailand

Thinking about heading to South East Asia in a few weeks has got us thinking about sandy beaches and sunny days. We took this stunning snap on our visit to Angthong National Marine Park, Thailand. The park is an archipelago of 42 islands in the Gulf of Thailand, and we spent the day exploring a few of them. Several are completely overrun by tourists and it is sad to see the impact that it has on the marine life in the area. [...]

Favourite Snaps – Action Shot: Todra Gorge, Morocco

This favourite snap comes from our recent trip to Morocco, where the sites were aplenty, the scenery astounding and the atmosphere contagious. Our travel companions, Ryan and Amen, were always on the look out to get the perfect action shot amongst the incredible landscape, and here at Todra Gorge, we succeeded in capturing the ‘magic’ moment. Looking like they are right out of a Jackie Chan action flick, Ryan and Amen really nailed this one in creating the ultimate kick ass snap. [...]

Favourite Snaps – Standing stones, Wales

I have always been fascinated with standing stones and loved to devour anything I could about them as a kid; books, documentaries, tv shows. Over the past few months I have been giddy with excitement anytime there has been the prospect of seeing and in some cases actually touching standing stones (this sends shivers down my spine even writing it now). This burial chamber was the highlight of my standing stone crusade of Wales.

4 people + 4 LARGE dogs + 1 car = No Worries!!

We have just started a new helpx/workaway position in Austria at a Siberian Husky centre and today we went for a little trip with a few of the dogs in the car. I really don’t think I can describe it as well in words. So I will just let the photos do it for me.                                                   [...]

Favourite Snaps: Korčula

Nothing beats a relaxing afternoon stroll around one of idyllic the islands of the coast Croatia. Korčula is one of the larger islands in the Adriatic, close to Dubrovnik on the mainland.

John Lennon’s Wall: Peaceful or Puke-worthy?

Prague, Czech Republic After John Lennon was murdered some of the young activists in the Czech republic painted a portrait of him on a wall to symbolise their fight against the Communist regime. From that point onwards the wall has been painted with John Lennon and Beatles inspired graffiti and messages of love and peace. The wall continuously undergoes change, the  original portrait of Lennon being long gone. From pictures I have seen there has been some impressive graffiti and [...]

Best (and worst) of 2011

Christmas is almost here and we are rugging up and getting cozy for a cold one in London. We had our fingers crossed for a white Christmas even though we knew it was slim chance so here is hoping that we will have some snow filled travels in the new year. With out without snow, this Christmas will be a lot colder than what we are used to in Australia. It will be a different experience to have a cold Christmas, [...]
